Food and Exercise Journal
This project should take students about 2 weeks to complete. Throughout the project, students are to work with their parents to keep a food and exercise journal reflecting on what they eat and the exercise they are getting each day for those 2 weeks. A typical journal entry should look like this:
2/1/2014
Today I woke up and had 2 scrambled eggs, strawberries, and a piece of toast with peanut butter. At school, I had an apple for snack. For lunch I had a turkey sandwich on wheat bread with lettuce and tomato, some carrot sticks, pretzels, and a handful of grapes. When I got home from school, my mom made me some cheese and crackers for snack. Then I went to soccer practice for 1 hour. For dinner we had chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans. My mom let me have a piece of chocolate for desert.
When the project is complete, students should have 14 entries (one for each day during the 2 weeks). Also at the end of the project, students should sum up how they feel they are doing as healthy students based on what they ate and how much exercise they got during the last 2 weeks of this project.
